Is Yelp! Deceptively Hiding Your Reviews?

How to Tell if Yelp! is “Filtering” Your Reviews

Yelp! may be deceptively “filtering” reviews that you took the time to write. Yelp! is very sneaky about doing it, too. When you are logged into Yelp!, all your reviews appear to be showing on each merchant’s page (unless Yelp! deleted it). Then, when you log out, you see what everyone else sees — your review may have been “filtered”! The funny thing is that Yelp! doesn’t filter all of your reviews. Yelp! uses a “proprietary” algorithm to determine which, if any, of your reviews will be “filtered”.

This is how to find out if Yelp! is deceptively filtering some of your reviews:

  1. Log into Yelp! and make a note of your reviews. Make sure they appear on each page.
  2. Log out of Yelp!
  3. Check each of your reviews. Some may now be “filtered”!

What can you do?

Before Yelp! Deceives was created, all anyone could do is complain to Yelp!. The only problem is that Yelp! deletes the accounts of Yelpers who complain about Yelp! deceptive practices. That’s WHY Yelp! deceives was created — to provide you with tangible actions you can take when Yelp! deceptively filters or even DELETES your legitimate reviews.

1. Boycott Yelp!
No-YelpDid you know that Yelp! is the only review site that filters and deletes legitimate reviews? Vote with your review posts, and put them elsewhere where they will not be subject to Yelp!’s editorial whims. Post your reviews on Google, Urban Spoon, Trip Advisor, City Search, Chow Hound, Merchant Circle, Judy’s Book, Insider Pages, Bing Local, Yahoo! Local, and too many others to list.

2. Raise Awareness
Let others know how Yelp! deceives by sharing this non-profit site through your social media. Share it on Google+, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and where ever else you engage with others. Yelp!, for its own reasons, filters and deletes legitimate reviews. Let people know that posting a review on Yelp! is a waste of time. If Yelp! has filtered or deleted your legitimate reviews, share your experience here.
